There is nothing better than hearing from students after they have left school. Its even better when they decide on a career in the outdoors. Pictured are Dave Williams from Wintec and 2019 Huntly College POET award winner (with her Kiwi Camping Kea tent) Taylor Beadle.
The outdoor experiences I had at Huntly College through Outdoor Education and the POET programs helped me realise that this is a passion of mine and I want to pursue it further.
I decided to enroll in the Wintec Certificate in Outdoor Adventure Education to further education and become an Outdoor instructor. Through the POET programmes I gained a little insight of what the outdoors has to offer. Working along side the teachers and one of the program coordinators, helping run a couple of camps made me gain a lot of leadership opportunities and also be a role model for the younger students at Huntly College.
I am currently half way through the year studying at Wintec and I am enjoying every minute of it. Doing the Certificate in Outdoor Adventure Education has given me so many opportunities to go out into the outdoors and do a variety of different activities, such as rock climbing, caving, canoeing, sea kayaking, tramping and camping. My favourite thing that I have done so far would have to be canoeing. I have a passion for being out on the water, so this year I am aim to achieve my Canoe leader award. I would also like to achieve my kayak leader award.
