In today’s blog post, we are showcasing a local group – Hamilton Tramping Club who, alongside their passion for getting outdoors, have also recently stepped up and supported our work.

Hamilton Tramping Club is a small, friendly Club which has been tramping around New Zealand since 1978. They run day trips on Sundays of every second weekend, (Covid permitting!).

Their day trips can vary widely, from nice leisurely bush walks to strenuous tramps into the more rugged regions of our local ranges and are graded accordingly. Day trips are a good way to start tramping.

The desire to visit areas of interest further afield brought about the extended day trip. On such trips they leave on Saturday, depending on the distance, maybe tramp on the Saturday, then do another tramp on the Sunday – coming home rewarded and refreshed for another week!

Longer weekend trips (they love public holidays) are evenly balanced between easy and strenuous ones. They usually depart at 6.00pm on Friday night, or sometimes early on a Saturday morning, and travel to their destination. The rest of the weekend is spent away from civilization, enjoying the many recreational activities in which the club is involved.

On weekend trips, they utilize DOC huts or tents. The club has some gear to lend gear to newcomers whilst they learn about what suits them and their budget.

Their website has up to date information on their up-coming trip program as well as the estimated costs for each one.

The Club also arranges social activities several times a year. These could involve a guest speaker, a presentation by one of their club members who has traveled somewhere special, or a pot-luck or restaurant meal.

If you would like to come out tramping with them, please contact the trip leader of the tramp you are interested in. They will be able to give you more details about the tramp.

They are always pleased to welcome new faces and will do their best to ensure you enjoy tramping as much as they do!
